i worked on the base in NB and there was a compound with about 25- 30 of them there, we would go there to get some of the "hard to get" parts, glass for them for some reason were hard to get and took forever to arrive when ordered.
as far as the " CANNOT BE LICENCED FOR THE ROAD " bit, im pretty sure the reason for that is... there is an air over hydraulic brake system on them that is not legal for the road for the civillian, but the military gets exempt from those rules for some weird reason. sometimes the pedal goes hard as a rock for no reason and you have no brakes, pretty sh!tty when you are downtown when it happens , it also could be a very intermitient problem

| i would expect that 1950s tech would be fixed by 1981 when these Canadian units were made .I have read many post on these rigs and war veterans complain about the braking system from when the similar design was used on trucks in Korea ,would figure there gripes would have trickled up the chain of command by the 80s .And in fact many trucks were retrofitted with a split master cylinder in the late 60s but not at the point of manufacture .I do however find it interesting that the military would recommission a design that was proven to have failures without any thoughts toward upgrading .All in all the only thing i dont like about the truck is the brakes and the heater ,everything else is great . |

they didn't fix anything because its the government and it would have cost too much. Also because they have new vehicles ordered, 5 ton 6wd International's. It takes that long for something to get implemented that they were probably planning for them in the 60's......haha

this is them but they will use the same wheel and tire combo as used on the current HLVW -Work is like a tree of monkeys, the higher up look down and see smileing faces, and the ones below look up and see ass- |
