So heres the plan. You take a '98 half ton Sub, which came factory with the the worst IFS setup ever, and you start cutting. Then you add two spring packs and hang a Corporate 10 Bolt from an '87 Sub. Then you get a new T case with the output for the front shaft on the passenger side. Top this off with 35" BFG MT's and it should be a decent combo. Big Big thanks to Dave ang Greg for the hours they've punched in on this!!

Its things like this that irritate me about the IFS system. Not to say that there won't be breakage with a SFA, but you should never have to worry about this happenning when you lift your vehicle 2".

What were you expecting to happen? Its 11 years old the angles on your front end were crazy, Did you have it alligned after the 2in lift? Correct me if im wrong but was that not plowed commercially by harry summers? Parts fail, how many km's on it since the ball joints were last replaced?

ok. . . you are wrong. It was never owned by harry summers or any of his clan or plowed commercially. And yes I realize that parts fail. And as for crazy angles, well thats alot of the reasoning for this swap. Add up the pros and cons. There isn't a sensible way to lift these vehicles without a ridiculous amount of work, time and money.

Yeah those ifs front ends do suck, there is an idler arm in the steering system that bolts to the chassis, they last for about 3 months befor they start getting a decent ammount of play in them again. I have bought these arms from, napa and automotive supplys and its the same story, and I greese everything alot to. Front drive shafts, they have a slip yoke, but the shaft does not move do to the solid mounted diff, then they seez up.

Good idea with the solid axel, dave did the same thing to our buddys 90 odd reg cab long box, looked awsome! Gte clear of the torsion bars, controll arms, cvs all that crap and jam in some good old fasion leaf springs.

the ford 60 is an excellent option too . . . but i already had rims and the axle was a freebie!! Also the 60's are more difficult to come across. But If I ever do get a 60, its goin in.

And this is the pitman arm I'm going to use. Its a drop pitman arm for a jeep but will still fit the saginaw steering box found on the chev's.

First thing to do was to get rid of that crappy front end. here are some of the inadequate parts.

Then cleaned up and plated the frame for added strength.

Plain and simple front crossmember to hang the leafs and tie the chassis together.

Hanging the leafs

Custom rear spring boxes

Ready to bolt in

axle hung

For the rear leafs I used front hangers off a '73-'87 chev and a rear shackle flip. I got about 7" of lift from this combo.

New main springs and an extra leaf on each side

Chassis POR'd
